About Wesmex
Beginning with its inaugural event in February 2006, the annual WesMex Regatta has earned the reputation of the premier small boat regatta of Banderas Bay, is one of the most important youth sailing events of the year in all of Mexico and is one of two “Signature Regattas” of the Vallarta Yacht Club..
The International WesMex Regatta is hosted by Vallarta Yacht Club and sanctioned by the Mexico Sailing Federation, the Mexico Optimist Class Association and the Laser Mexico Class Association. This one design regatta is the sole Mexican qualifier for young sailors from all over Mexico to advance to the North American and European Optimist Championships, one of three competitions to qualify for the Optimist Worlds and the sole eliminatory to select the best eam to represent Mexico in Youth Worlds Championships for Laser Radials and Laser 4.7 classes. These 2011 championships are to be held in Croatia, France, Portugal, New Zealand, Holland and twice in the United States.
